At the heart of my coaching philosophy at Antidote Fitness is the belief that you can look good and enjoy life without extreme sacrifices. You don’t need to give up everything to have an amazing physique and stay fit. Balance is key.

There's currently an epidemic of dogmatic ideologies being pushed in the fitness space that tell you that you need to stop drinking, stop socialising, spend every day in the gym, only eat X food (depending on the latest fad), and give up everything that you enjoy in the pursuit of getting fit.

I've tried all of these, and all I've found is that these dogmatic diets and strict regimes just lead to obsessive behaviours, guilt, and a sense of social isolation. This inevitably results in hopelessly giving up on the idea of ever looking the way you want to look because you're treated like a robot without taste buds or a social life.

However, over the years, I've developed three key pillars that stand at the heart of my training philosophy that I believe can help anyone achieve their fitness and physique goals in a sustainable way without the need to sacrifice everything they enjoy (i.e., you can still go to the pub on the weekend if you want).

Purposeful "Hybrid" Training:

  • High-intensity, low-volume, intentional workouts to maximise results without spending countless hours in the gym.

  • Skill/Goal-Based training: Incorporate skill learning (like working toward a pull-up, muscle-up, or a 10K) to keep training enjoyable and motivating.

  • Gamification of cardio so that it's not mind-numbingly boring.

Healthy Social Habits & Balance:

  • I firmly believe that staying social and not becoming a hermit who only goes to the gym is key for long-term sustainability and a happy life.

  • Mindful drinking and socialising: having loose rules in place to get the most out of your social life whilst limiting the negative physical effects of your night out.

  • Meaningful Plans: Planning activities you genuinely enjoy, which will naturally reduce the urge to drink excessively.

Intuitive Nutrition:

  • Having a solid grasp of nutrition fundamentals, without tracking (for the most part), to make informed food choices and understand how to incorporate your favourite foods without guilt.

  • Guidance on eating whole, unprocessed, high-protein foods to eliminate the need for calorie tracking.

True fitness lies in balancing a social life, being able to enjoy the foods you like alongside being physically fit. So if you're tired of extreme sacrifices in the pursuit of looking great, then follow the link below to see the next steps you can take.
